Mozilla’s soon-to-be-released Firefox 3 has gone a long way and is shaping up to be the browser to beat. I’ve been a user since Beta 1 and am happy to report that RC2 is feature complete and stable. I’ve actually replaced Firefox 2 with this version as my main browser.
The first thing that will catch people’s eyes is the new Vista or Windows XP Firefox theme. The Vista version works with Vista’s native theme correctly (this wasn’t so with the earlier betas).
The bookmark and search engine has been completely re-haul making searching in the Bookmarks or Address Bar (see figure 1) much easier.
But what caught my attention the most is the performance improvements over Firefox 2. The memory footprint is greatly improved and everything just feels much more snappier.
And of course, the great add-ons by the Firefox community is still the best reason to use Firefox over the other browsers.
Mozilla will try to set a Guinness World Record for the most software downloaded in 24 hours when Firefox 3 is released. See Firefox Download Day 2008 for more info.

1. Type about:config in the address bar.
2. Click on an empty spot and select new, then boolean.
3. Enter extensions.checkCompatibility as the preference name and select false as the value.
4. Now go install your favorite add-ons!

Do you think we’ll see the day when LCD monitors are replaced by holographic displays? Screens that literally appear out of thin air in full color?
What do you think? Holographic technology is still fairly new but there are scientists out there who believe we’ve only begun to tap into it.
There are also people working on holographic based cloaking devices for use in combat. In 10 years we could be looking back on the technology of today and laughing.

Are there any you don’t like?
I generally dislike love-songs.. or these girl power-thingies you see on MTV (but I guess that’s normal for a guy).
Of the music I actually listen to I’m not particular fond of the workers ethics in classic rock songs.. you know, about the booze and the relationships that don’t really go your way
I also dislike the superficial ‘love for everything’-mumbo jumbo in new age music, it’s so cheesy..
And the gore and porno-themes in some heavy metal.
Politics are also a real turn-off for me. Either I disagree with the views (and thus feel annoyed) or because it’s too down to earth (I prefer fantasy).
My favourite themes are culture & history, mysticism and the occult, fantasy, war, nature, solitude and anger/hatred. Quite the bombastic stuff.

So my sister is 10 years old, and has been addicted to board games lately. She asks me like 5 times a day to play the game Life with her or Apples To Apples. So it got me this idea to make this thread.

My favorite board game is Clue, cause it is not like other board games in my opinion and keeps me entertained. I loved Clue as a kid, and I still do. Other games I enjoy are Uno and Apples To Apples.

So a mate of mine got pissed at work the other day (i work with him) and at the end of the shift i had to drive him home, there was no way i was letting him drive. He wanted to of course. So because a did this he filled the car up with fuel and bought me beer for when i got home…so this is the first time anything good has come from going to work pissed, or getting pissed at work. And he was talkin crap the whole time we were in the car, so it was hilarious, i was having fun. Turns out he had to get up real early in the morning to go to work again. LOL haha, poor bugger!

My bed times have been all over the place for the last year basically. When I was working last summer I had to get up really early (about 4.45am) because my job was an early start so I would go to bed about 9pm, 10pm at the latest. Then when I went to college and moved away from my parents house my bed times went crazy and I was going to bed at like 1am or 3am and now I’m back home for the summer but working a later shift in my job my bed times are pretty late, average about 1am.

When my computer (XP or Vista) is idle for a few minutes, the read-write lamp begins to flash like a defrag or virus scan is running. When I open the task manager, a “system idle process” seems to be active. I have turned off scheduled defragmenting, windows defender and virus scans, and even in my travel laptop with no antivirus this “dreaming” occures. today a friend downloaded a .txt file on my computer and i later looked at it and it said it was about 8.4mb… which is incredibly large for a text file. i did put it into microsoft word and it said there was about 30,000 pages and roughly 1million words if that helps… but i just don’t know if there could somehow be a keylogger or virus hidden in that .txt file seeing it was so large.. i use firefox, and when to the downloads window and right clicked the original download, but it did not allow me to open the file or open the containing folder… i deleted it off of the downloads window i did a full virus scan on my computer and nothing came up- i also tried to do a system restore but it told me my anti virus program was preventing it from working. i disabled my anti-virus program and tried it again but system restore still didn’t work. i use norton anti-virus. long story short, from the information provided, i would like to know if i could possibly have a keylogger on my computer, how to detect it and how to remove it. thank you very much. My virus protection was malfunctioning for a short time yesterday, and during that time I got a virus. I believe I’ve gotten rid of it, but I’m now experiencing another problem, which I suspect is some sort of malware that got onto my computer at the same time as the other virus. Whenever I try to do a search (mainly just searches pertaining to the problem at hand, although some normal searches as well), any link that comes up redirects me to a site to buy things or page of fake search engine results. I’m not sure what’s going on and I can’t find out because whatever has installed itself on my computer or in my browser is hijacking my search results. I’m sure there’s an answer out there, but I can’t find it because I can’t do a proper search. Any tips you can give me for how to eliminate this problem would be greatly appreciated. I have a gateway mx6421 with windows xp I keep getting the blue death screen which does not stay up long enough for me to get an error code. I have tried to uninstall drivers remove programs and system restore and none have worked. I have tried reinstalling windows xp and it states I am running a newer version (which isn’t true). I recently bought a laptop over Christmas along with Microsoft 2007 Home & Student and Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2010 (they are both on disc/CDs). Stupid facebook gave me some nasty viruses. When I logged on, it started popping up very inappropriate sites that I didn’t want to see. I recently took a VERY very simple web-design class that I really enjoyed, but it ended yesterday. The last thing we learned was how to make a website using exclusively Photoshop, but I was wondering how you add content to a website like that using a web-editor, versus just like saving everything to the Photoshop file every time you want to update your site… if that makes sense? i have been trying to find out if roller coaster tycoon will work with windows 7.. does this mean that if i go into administartion on windows 7 i might be able to get RCT to work? I used to watch 720p mkv videos on my Dell Dimension 3000 PC and they were mostly fine. I reinstalled XP recently, downloaded all the codecs I had before and now the movie picture drags and the sound goes out of sync. Tried other players and codecs but they were all worse. VLC player is blocky and freezes. My CPU is at 100%. BS Player using 80-98%. I don’t know why everything is so slow now. Any ideas?

MY sisters stupid friends did something to the font on my computer and it changed everything. Nothing helps to mak eit normal size again. ctrl+- doesn’t help. and right clicking and going to properties doesn’t do anything. The words are so big!

I recently bought a laptop over Christmas along with Microsoft 2007 Home & Student and Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2010 (they are both on disc/CDs). Do I still need an internet connection for installing them, like if I was required to activate something online? I know on boxes of both it says if you don’t have a CD drive you can install if online, since they give you an activation code. I DO have a CD drive. I got a virus in my computer, the virus randomly poops up websties when im online, or when i click on a link fro example a link from somthing i googled it send me to this ramdom pages. My internet explorer also keeps on saying that there was an error so it keeps shutting down. I already scaned my compuer several times and all it catches is a tracking cookie, It never picks up any virus. Also one of the sities that popped up was about norton popping up sites and had people’s comments of how annoying that was. It was a Norton site(wich pooped up too) I dont know if that is even relevant to this. Does anyone know what i can do about this, or how i could take the virus off? i dont wanna have to buy another antivirus? I renewed my trend micro on september this year, b/c I’ve had it for so long and it nevergave me problems. My computer has detendted so many viruses, and it crashed on me. I have gotten a virus on my computer.. It’s a rogue anti-virus program that says I have a whole lot of viruses and have to buy their program. I know not to click it or anything.. but after I try to run some antivirus and malware programs, it just freezes. Whenever I try to uninstall Spy Sweeper, I get a prompt saying the uninstall program doesn’t exist (same result whether I do this through Start menu or Add or Remve Programs). I DLed Ccleaner and Revo but they don’t uninstall it either. I also tried reinstalling and then uninstalling but the installation cannot be completed because of an error. Using the cd won’t do the trick either; it cannot complete installation (error message). What may have caused this is a recent system restore that I had executed to prevent the progression of a virus after Spy Sweeper had already been uninstalled (I think). I’m not sure but is it possible that that had something to do with it? Please help me get rid of this crappy program. My virus protection was malfunctioning for a short time yesterday, and during that time I got a virus. I believe I’ve gotten rid of it, but I’m now experiencing another problem, which I suspect is some sort of malware that got onto my computer at the same time as the other virus. Whenever I try to do a search (mainly just searches pertaining to the problem at hand, although some normal searches as well), any link that comes up redirects me to a site to buy things or page of fake search engine results. I’m not sure what’s going on and I can’t find out because whatever has installed itself on my computer or in my browser is hijacking my search results. I’m sure there’s an answer out there, but I can’t find it because I can’t do a proper search. Any tips you can give me for how to eliminate this problem would be greatly appreciated. I use Firefox and XP Professional. Also, I have been receiving a lot of notifications from Nortons that an IP address in Luxembourg (212.117.174.176) is trying to attack my computer. Brand New Gateway PC SX2800-03 Windows Vista Home 64bit with SP1 Intel Core2 Quad Q8200 4gigs of DDR3 for RAM Intel GMA X4500 Intergrated video (vga and hdmi outputs) 640 gig My friend just got this pc for Christmas. They were installing softwares. They must have downloaded a crappy software to get this error. The last software they installed and all the problems started after the install was iTunes. Probaly didn’t get it directly from Apple and got it from another fake website or something. OR maybe he may have visited an adult site and gotten the trojan/virus. Heck I don’t know cause the dang thing wont boot up. Here’s what I’ve tried so far…. 1. changed bios settings to boot only from hd. 2. tried booting into safe mode, it’ll restart cause it’ll get stuck right at cscdisk.dll 3. tried booting to last known good config 4. tried the “Launch Startup Repair”… that tried to repair but went straight to BSOD after 10min. Laptop: Lenovo Y410 OS: win XP sp3 AntiVirus: Norton Internet Security 2009 Back in the Philippines, I was using my laptop normally. No problems. I could connect to the internet, download stuff with p2p, etc. About a week ago, we arrived in Las Vegas and have been living with my uncle’s. I was enjoyed his really really fast internet (well, compared to my connection back in the Philippines, It was incredibly fast). I was able to download stuff of interest and also surf normally. The problem occurred after I visited a pornsite (and I’ve been visiting this pornsite back then so, I had confidence that It didn’t pose a threat to my system) (and please, I don’t give a **** about what you think about me If I visit porn sites) My laptop started hanging. I have to hold the power button just to turn it off. Usually, windows would show an error that “the laptop didn’t turn off properly” blah blah… It didn’t. After my next attempts of rebooting the laptop, about 5 minutes into operation, it would slow down, and after a few seconds, it would freeze and after trying to run task manager, it would sound off a loud beep that wouldn’t end unless I turn off the laptop by holding the power button. This happens when I’m connected to the net. This also happens when I’m not connected but gives my laptop more normal run time, and eventually hangs. I tried running system restore, It said that “it couldn’t help solve the problem”. I tried running system restore while in safe mode and it was successful. I rebooted back into normal and the same problem occurred (hang, loud beep). I tried doing a system scan in safemode (since in normal mode, it would hang right away), and it found 1 threat (mebroot) and said (Norton) to have resolved it. Fortunately, I had a back up OS (win XPsp3 again installed on a separate partition). I ran it, and connected to the internet. I surfed to google, fry’s, target, (since I was shopping for stuff). After about 20 minutes into browsing, the same thing happened to my laptop (without browsing porn). It hanged, and sounded a loud beep again. My laptop is a year old, and warranty doesn’t cover it any more. I want to know if I’m having hardware problems or software problems. Thanks! Happy New Year! i have an anti virus that I bought, but when sometimes I hit a link or something on the internet, it will automatically detect a threat and it shows like its scanning something like in red color, and it tells me to install something, which is not even related to my anti virus, it seems like theres something totally different that its scanning, like it says anti virus threats scan, what is this? what should I do? Ok, Norton picked up a few viruses on my computer called JS.SecurityToolFraud and a few others which Norton didn’t give names (They Were Trojans) too. Now Norton Says it got rid of these viruses and i need too take no action. Then i got a notice saying something along the lines of ” A seciruty risk appeared, no futher action needed. Then i got the same notice after about 15 minutes. So Norton hasn’t got rid off it, is there anyways i can ensure that the viruses and the trojans Ps. I think the Trojans name was .dropper or something like that, Norton is still running fine, Internet links from google lead me too ad sites. Had to type this in too the bar at the top. I have a piece of adware on my computer that I obviously wish to get rid of (it slows down my computer… -.-). Avira Free Version is a perfectly fine antivirus program, but apparently it does not have this (insert obscene adjective here) adware on its detection list. I looked into this adware a bit more and found that AVG should have it on its detection list, which would mean a
for me and a 
for the adware… elimation of the adware in other words. There are several problems with this idea, though. 1. I am not sure about this, but I believe I read somewhere that having multiple AVs (AntiVirus) may cause confliction between programs… is this true? (read titular question for the specifics) 2. Supposing that the above question were answered with a “Yes”, I would have to remove Avira. I have also read that this action is difficult to fully complete… is this true and if so, how would I go about screwing the adware (FYI it is called WhenU SaveNow, and it is despicable in my personal opinion)? 3. Should someone else incidentally have this (virus? adware? program?)… thing… and have successfully removed it, could you answer back with your solution? Notes about the *censor*ing software… I am aware that you (ahem) should (ahem) be able to remove the “thing” (I refuse to name it except in an above example) in Windows’ Add/Remove Programs panel. It is not a part of the list of removable items, so I assume it must have latched onto a download (silly brother >:O). Because my computer is second-hand, it has a variety of rather shifty programs (in my paranoid opinion). Flock I think is decent, Limewire… not so decent, my idiot brother’s downloads off Limewire… VERY untrustworthy. However, the adware might have been present before that bozo downloaded Limewire, so I can’t fix the blame on Limewire. Also, this adware updates itself and seems to “read” the content on the web pages I browse and display related content… fortunately, it does not understand Mandarin. The adware PHAILS (phails, fails, same thing) in that it displays its unconvincingly poor “Click me” (the “click me” idea is displayed in many ways…) ideas in Internet Explorer while I browse in Mozilla Firefox -.- Any solution would be welcome. I have recently got a new laptop with windows 7 and Norton security but within days mystery emails were being sent from my hotmail address seemingly to everyone in my contact list. It was awhile ago when I saw it, but there is apparently something you can download and burn to a disk and it will delete just about everything from your computer to make reformatting easier. Anybody know what the website is? There are missing, necessary files on our desktop or there may have been a virus and now its all screwy. I just got a laptop so was able to transfer all the stuff I needed from the desktop to the laptop, so it’d be better just to reformat since I already have everything backed up here so to speak. I logged on today and it just wasn’t there. It’s not hidden. I’ve tried putting explorer into the task manager and it popped up for a couple seconds then disappeared again. When I rebooted it, It was there for a couple seconds and again, poofed. I scanned my computer for virus’s and nothing came up with that. Can someone tell me what to do? Today i opened itunes and noticed that some of my songs wont play. its like they dont exist. If i double click on them it doesn’t do anything. If 1 song that does work goes to the next song (one that doesnt) it will just skip over it. I can play those songs that dont work in itunes in windows media player. Also when i tried importing some of the songs into sony vegas 8 it says to make sure i have permission and that the file is not corrupt (something like that), and it wont let me import those songs. I renewed my trend micro on september this year, b/c I’ve had it for so long and it nevergave me problems. My computer has detendted so many viruses, and it crashed on me. Let me start off by saying what actually happens with videos. Whenever a page comes up that has a potential video on it, ones in which you can click a play button, my computer freezes up immediately. I ran a virus scan and there are no viruses. Literally, a second after the page comes up it freezes and the “program is not responding”. It was working fine early today. Now that I think back though, a message came up that was asking for me to grant permission or something and I may have clicked never but I can’t remember what is was asking for etc. Are there any common downloads I could do or any security options that I can get around? I’ve recently discovered that the a virus (Infopass.Gamestealer to be specific) has somehow made its way onto my flash drive. It is most likely from a computer I share with the other four hundred or so at my school, but I’m unsure how to remove the virus as Norton (Yes, I realize that it’s terrible in terms of virus detection, but it’s all I have.) isn’t detecting it when I scan the drive. As a result of this virus being on my frequently used flash drive, I’ve managed to let it drop some malware (Hacktool.Rootkit) onto my personal computer. Norton only ever detects this one when I turn my PC on and never catches it during any of my scans of the computer. Are their any suggestions as to how I can deal with each of them individually, or even both at once? Thank you all for your help! Whenever I try to uninstall Spy Sweeper, I get a prompt saying the uninstall program doesn’t exist (same result whether I do this through Start menu or Add or Remve Programs). I DLed Ccleaner and Revo but they don’t uninstall it either. I also tried reinstalling and then uninstalling but the installation cannot be completed because of an error. Using the cd won’t do the trick either; it cannot complete installation (error message). What may have caused this is a recent system restore that I had executed to prevent the progression of a virus after Spy Sweeper had already been uninstalled (I think). I just got kaspersky internet security yesterday and I scaned my computer with a full scan and it found viruses… So I tried to quarantine them but every time i do that it asks me to open a file.. I’ve never seen that from any antivirus programs.. THere is also another option: ” clear all” which deletes report entry.. is that how you delete the infection or is there another way? My friend in Nebraska has asked me to help her with her laptop (i live in AZ ,she used to live here too). She downloaded a bunch of viruses disguised as a virus danger warning from the main OS (ironic huh?) all I know to do is to take it to a computer store like best buy or get a free anti virus software. I’ve had my laptop since like April, and just at the beginning of this month it started getting really slow (online and offline), and eventually started warning me about how my hard disk is apparently bad, and I should send it to my manufacturer or something. I was able to hit cancel on these notifications and ignore them, and go about whatever I was doing. I don’t want to buy a whole new laptop
. Maybe ignoring the warnings of imminent failure wasn’t wise, but I can’t even boot up right anymore. It was just a bad hard disk, I don’t think I had any terrible viruses. In fact I don’t even know what caused this. —-the question——- But yeah, if I bought a new hard drive, would that fix everything? I’d be pretty much back to where I was when I first got the thing, assuming I bought a hard drive of the same size? —————————– I assume it’s the slightly cheaper option as opposed to buying a whole new laptop (Dell Studio 15). If I did, would I just unscrew/take out the hard drive in there now, buy a new one and screw that one in? And I’m good to go? I don’t care about the files that were on there, I’m not losing anything important. But like I said, it’s only the hard disk that’s bad, as far as I know. I don’t think the whole laptop is garbage or anything. I have an HP Pavilion dv6000 with Windows Vista. My mouse locks up and the computer freezes. I thought it was a virus but after running a scan, it still kept happening. Hi, i had my laptop about 3 weeks ago and 1 week ago i went to log into my account and after i put my password in and clicked enter it said welcome with the loading icon and just stayed like that. It did this every time i tried to log on. I could start it in safe mode. I just wiped my computer clean and started again with the disk. The same thing happened yesterday. I do not have a virus after doing scans from Mcafee and two other virus scans and they all found nothing. I have restarted my whole computer again and i am desperate to know what happened and how i can stop it from happening Again. My OS is Windows 7.
